When did you start springboard or platform diving?

I am 15, going on 16 in February. I am thinking of joining the local diving club/team where I live, but I think I may have decided to join too late. Does it take a long time to gain experience, I know it won’t be an overnight process, but after a year, would I still be learning the same skills? Also I was just wondering how competitive diving scholarships are.
