Is it ok to use contact lenses underwater while snorkeling? Will the saltwater have adverse effect on the lens

Regina C. asked:

Is it safe? I dont have enough money to use prescribed goggles for snorkeling, it is too expensive. I’m thinking of using disposable contact lenses and put ordinary goggles on. But I couldnt totally prevent the seawater from reaching my eyes. Will the seawater harm my eyes with the contact lenses on?

if you get it in your eyes its going to dry the contacts out, and of course salt will dry your eyes out with or without contacts. I wear my contacts in the pool and beach, and just rinse them with solution after. And take some eye drops with you to keep your contacts and eyes from getting dried out, cause it does hurt a little!
